The braided brunette, lonely Susie Zett

Had a rather ugly and unfortunate pet.

She had found Trouble in an unusual way.

He came to her while she was having a bad day.

Susie would never ever let trouble run free.

She wanted him to keep her company.

After all he had been a stray,

It was all too likely he’d run away.

So In a red wagon Trouble remained caged,

Where he grew big and bitterly enraged.

All the while little Susie grew more attached,

Dragged behind her, cage door tightly latched.

Then came one mid-summer occasion,

The result of Susie’s mother’s persuasion.

She was treading to granny’s for an afternoon visit.

The sun was out and the weather exquisite.

Susie didn’t take notice of the beautiful day,

She just dragged her feet and moped all the way.

This behavior is what annoyed Trouble the most,

That his captor always remained so morose.

But Trouble’s luck on that day was changed,

Thanks to the way the terrain was arranged.

For Granny lived atop a steep rocky hill,

and it was hard to keep the cage either steady or still.

The wagon bounced about and the latch came undone,

Poor little Susie never got the chance to run.

The red wagon’s handle dropped to the ground.

Trouble consumed her with barely a sound.
